火箭队杜兰特谈威少退役：第一反应是“什么鬼？”

Recently, future Hall of Famer Russell Westbrook shook up the NBA world when he announced that he would be retiring from the game after 18 seasons. Among the many stars who shouted out Westbrook in the wake of the news was Houston Rockets wing Kevin Durant, who was Westbrook’s season for nearly a decade with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Now, Durant has spoken on his initial reaction when he found out Westbrook was hanging up the sneakers.

“I’m like, ‘what the f***?’ I looked at Shams (Charania’s) tweets, you’ve always got to go to Shams’ tweets. It was shocking,” he said, per Boardroom on X, formerly Twitter.

“It just hit me, man, because it’s just like that’s one of the first dudes you come in with and you was around every day to finally step out of this sh*t… It surprised me,” he continued.

Westbrook and Durant produced plenty of highlights during their tenure with the Thunder in the late 2000s and early 2010s. Although they didn’t seem to be on the best of terms when Durant took his talents to the Golden State Warriors in 2016, the two have since appeared to mostly mend their relationship, and have always had a clear mutual respect for one another.

Westbrook was lauded by fans for his intensity and fearlessness on the court, and although he didn’t reach his ultimate goal of winning a championship, he still made an impact on every team he played for, including the Rockets.

In the present day, Durant will look to lead Houston into legit championship contender status after a frustrating playoff exit in the first round this past season.
